The CAFTCAD Library Committee is pleased to have launched An Open Book Blog.

This is an insightful series of interview blog articles on industry topics discussed by professionals in the costume and fashion field. There is reference to books and other literary sources that have been useful in their careers and that in turn could become a resource for you in your research or sourcing for information.

Edtion 1 - HERE - Master tailor Terri Dans and cutter Kim Crossley discuss costume building in “Shape, Drape and Roll Camera”
Edtion 2 - HERE - Fashion historians and collectors Ian Drummond and Ivan Sayers offer a glimpse into “Shop, shop, shop! What shall I wear today?”
Edition 3 - HERE - A Story is Sewn In: First Nations, Métis and Inuit artisans and clothing designers share insight about their creative journeys

The Library Committee has also launched the Additional Resource List initiative, in conjunction with CAFTCAD Education courses. As an extra bonus to the course information, each participant receives an additional curated list of books or videos related to the course topic, composed by the Library Committee and course instructor and added to each course handout. The aim is to provide more resources for members to increase their learning.

Join us and be part of creating Full Circle CAFTCAD Libraries that will transform and bring accessibility back to CAFTCAD’s current 2000 Costume/Fashion book and periodical reference collection. With approximately 1500 book titles spanning thousands of years of history and 500 magazines and periodicals dating from the 1920s to present day, access to the CAFTCAD collection can maximize and inspire any show’s digital research when your Costume Department meets to discuss concepts and ideas.

Taking this large donated legacy book & magazine collection and putting it back into the hands of costumers and stylists right where they work is what this transformation is about! As part of the Library Committee initiative’s there are tiered goals proposed that will begin to transform this current Reference Library into a specific type of Circulating Library in non-institutional locations in various hubs across the country.

While that initiative continues to take shape, we have provided this online “Suggested Costume & Fashion Resource List” access here to read. While restructuring plans continue to take shape, access to the physical library collection is still available through appointment and viewing in our Toronto office only. Please contact tessa@caftcad.com to arrange a visit or if you would like more information on how to get involved.
