CALL OUT FOR ARTIST SUBMISSIONS
The Canadian Alliance for Film & Television Costume Arts & Design (CAFTCAD) is a not-for-profit arts organization that continues to strive for a more understanding, inclusive, and diverse community of costume professionals. CAFTCAD is currently looking for Indigenous artist(s) to submit work to be utilized as a visual element to a digital land acknowledgement for the organization.
In August of 2021, CAFTCAD staff, members, and leadership participated in a workshop led by Indigenous artists and Elders to discuss and develop our land acknowledgement as an organization, as well as our own personal land acknowledgements. In doing this important work, CAFTCAD has identified the need to create a virtual land acknowledgement that can be included in our digital programming, whether that be various events, courses, and meetings. To accompany a voice recording (approx. 1 minute and 40 seconds in length) of the organization’s land acknowledgement read by CAFTCAD leadership, we are hoping to display new or pre-existing visual work from Indigenous artists with this acknowledgement.
Visual elements could include, but are not limited to: photography, film (without audio), and visual art. CAFTCAD has members and hosts events from coast to coast and is hoping to utilize visual elements that reflect multiple corners and communities of Turtle Island, with a special emphasis on artwork or photography that showcases Indigenous people working in the film and television industry and/or showcasing their art.
Artists will be credited for the use of the new or pre-existing work selected for this acknowledgement. An honorarium will be gifted to the selected artists in the range of $200-$600, depending on how many pieces will be selected for the final arrangement.
Interested individuals are asked to send new or pre-existing work they would like to submit for consideration to tessa@caftcad.com by Friday, March 4, 2022. All artists must complete this submission form with their submission to be considered. The selection process will be conducted by CAFTCAD’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and approved by CAFTCAD’s Executive Board. Artists will be notified in the week of March 14-18, 2022 regarding the next steps for this project.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to tessa@caftcad.com.
